Bottled Water Vs Tap Water:
Does It Matter?

There is a big debate about bottled water vs tap water. What do you drink? Most people drink both, preferring to take bottled water out when they are traveling or at work. When at home, most people turn to the tap for a glass of clean water. However, neither of these options may be a good solution, depending on if you use a water purification system or not. In fact, if you believe that only bottled water is healthy for you, you may be mistaken since that bottled water may also be contaminated.

Bottled Water VS Tap Water

When pondering bottled water vs tap water, the first question you need to ask is what is in the bottle of water you are drinking. According to the nonprofit organization Natural Resources Defense Council, no one should believe that bottled water is better regulated or better for you than tap water. Of course, this depends on the type of water you buy and what quality your home drinking water is. However, for most people living in the city, both products may be very similar to each other.

According to some studies, about 25 percent of bottled water comes from municipal supplies. Some companies use misleading labels on their bottled products, which could make you believe that the water comes from a spring stream someplace or that the water is “pure” when in fact it is not. Some bottling companies now even state on their websites or on the bottles themselves where the water actually comes from.

Does This Mean Tap Is Best?

When you consider this, you may be wondering why even bother buying bottled water. The fact is, though, that tap water may not be that great for you either. Treated water may have:

  • Chemicals in it from manufacturing plants and industrial sites

  • Toxins from medications flushed down the toilet or flushed from medical establishments

  • Pollution from waste water

  • Chemicals added to it, like chlorine, to cleanse the water, which may produce their own toxins

As you can see, the tap water may not be the best option for you either.

Go With Purification

Take the time to look at the details. Tap water compared to bottled water is no different unless you use a purification system. Look for a system that will transform the water into alkaline water for the best, purest form of water for your body. Otherwise, look for specialized bottled water that is purified and backs up its claims as being such.
